The Trouble With Finals: Writing and Research Help Made Easy

Angel Jiménez is your papers secret weapon. New to the Saint Leo Library Staff, Jiménez has quickly become the student body’s favorite go-to guy for writing and research assistance.

For the last four years, Jiménez has taught at USF and HCC- Brandon, as well as worked in the Writing Center at both campuses. With a Master’s in English Literature from USF, Jiménez has formed a unique perspective on academic writing. “Earning my Master’s … trained me to understand the multiform character of academic writing and the responsibility that we all share to use language ethically.”

As the new instructor of Writing and Research , Jiménez  helps students with the clarity, organization, supporting evidence, and grammar of their academic essays. However, he does offer services for those students in the pre-writing stages, helping those students to formulate an outline or understand the assignment guidelines. As part of his job, Jiménez has an extensive ability in researching and assisting students with sources for academic writing. While Jiménez does offer his services and help to students, he  prefers “not to tell a student how to go about simply fixing an essay, as this style situates the student in a passive position.”

Whether a freshman or a senior, students can benefit from an understanding their own writing skills, as well as a chance to learn valuable skills in academic writing. As finals approach and many students find that writing a paper has become more of a challenge than a slice of cake, Jiménez offers up words of advice, “Strong writing has to do more with thoughtfulness and thoroughness coupled with knowledge of writing conventions, knowledge that is obtainable through hard work and care.”

As deadlines for papers fast approach, Jiménez can assist students in their quest for a good grade. To schedule an appointment with Angel Jiménez, visit the Cannon Memorial Library Circulation Desk  and ask for the writing and research appointment binder, email Jiménez at angel.jimenez@saintleo.edu, or stop by his office located on the first floor of the library (just past the laptop area). Office hours are located on the door, as well as in the appointment binder.
