It was the eve of Halloween 2019 when ghosts, ghouls and monsters of every kind took siege of cafeteria patio on Saint Leo University’s main campus. The event was none other than the Monster Bash carnival. This event hosted by the dining hall services caters to the festive spirits of Halloween as it congregated many souls for the celebration of Halloween which was the following day.
Robin Lavelle, Dinning Service Manager, described the event simply as “Community Engagement for Halloween”. That it surely was as the student body was treated to different things such as pumpkin carvings and free candy store. Not only that the students were able to participate in more active things to win prizes such air bobbing for apples, which is different for than the usual sport of dipping your head in water for apples. Instead they try to capture the apples that are hanging in the air. They were also able to participate in a fate spin in an attempt to win free cake and a pumpkin seed spitting contests.
The seed spitting, wasn’t the only contest that the monster bash had in store. There was the costume contest which saw fierce competitors trying to win for having the best costume. Although the decisions were hard to make, a victor was crowned. The winner was the “Green Queen” or as most students may know on campus as just Katie Huettel, senior theater major, the enthusiastic and energic young lady who always have a smile on her face. Second place was the young lady who was dressed as Moana and third was won by the young man dressed as Patrick from SpongeBob.
With such attractions placed at the monster bash it was hard to not stop and participate in one of them. Victoria Omoregie, Senior majoring in business exclaimed, “It’s like an event to get people excited for Halloween to go trick or treating right here on campus”. Needles to say the event was a success, as those who attended expressed their joy from the event. It is also needless to say that there was free candy being given out all throughout the event. So though the monsters came to town, they did not bring any tricks with them, only treats.
The dining Hall services did a splendid job of curating this event, and it is clear that this will continue on for years to come.
