During the usual college chaos, a colorful wave of gooey fun took over our campus. It offered students a much-needed break from their busy school schedules.
This was a recent on campus event hosted by the Campus Activities Board (CAB) that took place on Nov. 4 called “Slime Bash.” This event allowed students to take time out of their day to enjoy wholesome socialization and unwind, all while bringing out their creative sides by making and customizing slime.
Cindy Cadichon, a junior medical humanities and pre-med major and the Special Events Chair of CAB, joined alongside Brianna Pratt, a junior bio-med major and the Social Media and Marketing Chair for CAB, both spoke on the creation and success of this fun event.
“We were looking for good ideas of what we think people would like,” said Cadichon. “While we do like a lot of arts and crafts, we wanted something that was more inclusive, something fun for everyone to bring out their inner child.”
“Also, YikYak, a very popular app at Saint Leo, had a post our campus engagement chair saw saying that a person really wanted to make slime, it would be the only thing that would cure their depression,” added Pratt. Hence, the creation of this Slime Bash event came into existence.
“It’s just a good time to let loose, have fun and relieve some stress, you get to make slime, and there are lots of fun colors and toppings you can do,” said Cadichon. “And it’s just a fun, good bonding activity to do as well.”
“It also brings back a lot of nostalgia from high school,” Pratt said. “And COVID, where everybody started making slime at home when they had nowhere to go.”
Students at the event were provided with various tools to make slime. Such as glue, shaving cream and Borax. They were then able to continue the fun by decorating their slime with different colors, glitter, and other toppings.
“We added the toppings just for a fun twist so you can add texture to it, colors, lots of fun things,” said Cadichon.
While reflecting on the event, Cadichon stated, “It was one of our best ones, we had a great turnout, everybody was enjoying it.”
Pratt also added that she thought was the best part of the event was “seeing everybody’s smiling faces and everybody reminiscing about high school when they were making slime.”
Based on the positive feedback and great response this event got, Cadichon and Pratt agreed to definitely bring it back. “This was a hit,” said Cadichon.
Even though this event was a big success, there was one challenge Cadichon and Pratt faced while planning this event.
“The Hurricane pushed a lot of our events back. So, this event was really supposed to happen earlier but didn’t,” Pratt said.
However, they were able to overcome this challenge and still have a successful event that students were able to enjoy. And now they look to the future, already planning their next event.
“There’s always something to do and we want everyone to feel included, so definitely come out, bring your friends and tell anybody and everybody that you know, just to come out for a fun time,” said Cadichon.
Students can find flyers of future CAB events on the Saint Leo Cab Instagram, on the TV in the Students Activity Building, and in different buildings around campus. These flyers are posted a week in advance so students can decide if the time of these events works best for them, so keep an eye out!
