Outside of the Student Activities Building, the Panhellenic Council set up a table of ingredients to make some s’mores and kick-off recruitment week!

“The Panhellenic Council is the governing body of all sororities at Saint Leo University,” said Eternity Rodriguez, the vice president of the Panhellenic Council and a sophomore studying psychology. “The Panel includes the sororities on campus: Gamma Upsilon, Alpha Sigma Tau, Theta Phi Alpha, and Sigma Sigma Sigma.”

Rodriguez went on to describe the council of sororities on a national scale. “The National Council is the governing body for all of them and the governing body actually has 26 sororities.”

When asked about the goal of the event and the Panhellenic Council, Rodriguez had a lot to say about female empowerment, bonding, and their own personal goals.

“Our goal is to create a sisterhood outside of the traditional sorority chapter and also empower women and create strong bonds,” said Rodriguez. “We want to encourage women to go after their goals.”

Rodriguez is hopeful that the event will bring in new members or at least help people learn about the sororities and what the Panhellenic Council is.

“I expect a whole bunch of people that do not know what the Panhellenic Council is to come out here,” said Rodriguez. “They’ll get to know us, and then hopefully they’ll be interested in recruitment.”

However, the council has limitations for members. One must be a second-semester student with at least a 2.7 GPA to be considered.

Despite the limitations, that did not hold back the Panhellenic Council from holding the event; they were confident that the event would drive up recruitment and had faith in their individual chapters.

When asked about when the meetings for individual sororities will happen, Rodriguez recommended looking out for the flyers that each organization will be advertising. This is because each individual sorority will be holding their own events. Instagram is a great resource too.

In conclusion, even with the limitations that the council places on prospective members, that did not stop the Saint Leo sororities from hosting events to have new members join them and help them find a path to their goals. Good luck to those who are curious potential members.
