On the Oct. 27, Saint Leo held an event on the SAB Green. The students got to have a little leisure time by participating in a festive fall “Pumpkin Painting” event.
“Pumpkin Painting” was one of many events featured during Greek Community Week. As the name implies, the activity consists of individuals choosing a pumpkin and unleashing their creativeness upon the gourd. The choice for color was not an issue, as there was a broad variety of colors at hand.
“We are letting students, all Greeks students, any regular students come by,” said the Inter-Fraternity Council, president, Marcus Franchesci, when asked about his targeted crowd. But the activity did not limit itself to painting. Students also used the opportunity to converse and enjoy a unique moment together.
While this particular event itself was a first, it was not the Greek Community’s first experience with such events. According to the president of IFC, events for GCW, Greek Community Week, have been going on as long as the existence of Greek Life on campus. The IFC board decides which activities to hold for the entire Greek Community.
The activity was meant to serve as an appealing alternative to the jack ‘o’ lantern tradition. One does not need to apply a lot of effort to carve a pumpkin, but rather just apply some color. Many students expressed the hope of having a second edition of “Pumpkin Painting” next year, but also voiced their desire to have bigger pumpkins if possible.
“It’s cute! look at it, it’s a baby pumpkin,” laughed Ashley Arnold, a freshman who labeled the activity as quite fun.
Despite the fact that “Pumpkin Paintings” did not attract a big crowd, the activity proved to be quite relaxing and enjoyable for the ones that were able to make it. Franchesci felt that activity went successfully well. But, if “Pumpkin Painting” makes a return next fall, it would need bigger pumpkins and a larger crowd.
