The Lions’ Pride Newspaper has continued their push into the new media front with the launch of a mobile application for the iPhone. Working with Diligent Media, a small start-up company in Tampa, FL, the newspaper is now available through the free Uextra app.

This app, available for free in the iPhone app store, allows The Lions’ Pride to be digitized for mobile devices. Uextra pulls the content from our website, http://pride-online.net, through RSS feeds and converts it for mobile display. A number of other college newspapers are also available through the application, including The Minaret, University of Tampa’s on-campus newspaper.

The Uextra app is part of the newspaper’s push into multimedia and mobile devices. The Lions’ Pride online updated their website format at the start of the semester, using a modified version of the popular WordPress blogging service. There is also a facebook group, Twitter feed, and YouTube channel, accessible from the online version of the newspaper.

Diligent Media is headed up by Dean Collura. Although the app is new, it has grown in popularity recently and added many college newspapers. You can learn more about Diligent Media by viewing their website, http://www.diligentme.com.
