Moonlight Breakfast has been the greatly anticipated exam week event from its conception on the Saint Leo University campus. Moonlight Breakfast is an event that takes place every fall and spring semester on the Monday evening of examination week. Students have the opportunity to get free breakfast foods as well as a variety of snacks and other items in order to encourage them throughout the upcoming week of exams.
On Monday, December 3. 2018, students stood in line for hours, and some even in the rain, before the café doors opened at around 9:50 pm just to get a chance to enjoy the festivities inside before all were gone. Students with were met with great excitement and enthusiasm as members of the senate, student government, and campus activities board greeted them when they walked through the cafeteria doors.
This semester for Moonlight Breakfast, McDonald’s sandwiches, Chick-fil-A nuggets, and a number of breakfast items such as eggs, bacon, and hash browns; as well as caramel and chocolate iced coffees were served in the café for students to enjoy.
As students left the cafeteria, they were given small “goodie” bags filled with a number of snacks like chips, chocolate, and fruit. Upstairs from the café and outside the SCC Boardrooms, long lines were also formed by students in order to visit some vendors who had set up there.
One of the vendors there was giving out containers of caramel popcorn where students had the freedom to add a number of toppings such as gummy bears or miniature marshmallows.
Another vendor was handing out waffle sticks in which students could add powdered sugar and a variety of syrups such as maple, chocolate, or strawberry syrup.
A few members of Saint Leo’s administration, such as the Director for Student Activities, Edson O’Neale, Director of Residence Life and Leadership KJ McConnell, and Assistant Director of Greek Life & Community Engagement, Krystal Sanchez, were also seen working hard and helping out at the event.
Dr. Kenneth Posner, who is the Associate Vice President of Student Affairs said that this semester’s Moonlight Breakfast was absolutely fantastic. “We were a little concerned because of the weather, but students came out in full force” said Dr. Posner with regard to the event this semester.
Saint Leo University president, Dr. Jeffrey Senese, was also seen assisting at Moonlight Breakfast and when interviewed, he said that he enjoyed his first Moonlight Breakfast as university president and even said he has “donut elbow” from helping set up and give out donuts throughout the evening. About 500 students were counted entering the doors to enjoy the Moonlight Breakfast festivities this semester. A number of students and members of administration spoke highly of this semester’s Moonlight Breakfast and how it was executed, all looking forward to next semester’s event.
