Saint Leo University’s scheduled Fall final exam week is from Tuesday December 6 until Friday December 9, 2011, which leaves ample time of over a three week period for students to get prepared mentally and physically for a ‘stress free finals week’.
The Lions’ Pride Newspaper has continued their push into the new media front with the launch of a mobile application for the iPhone. Working with Diligent Media, a small start-up company in Tampa, FL, the newspaper is now available through the free Uextra app.
As every year upholds Saint Leo University has once again seen a new wave of dress style. Every year students try their own personal flair to begin the year off right. However, as midterms and finals show up, it is seen that students turn to their beloved sweatpants in their last hope of comfort before the big test. This year has spared no shock value and as we expand our range of students, so does the sense of style expand to trends that some eyes thought they would never see. This year, however, has been somewhat of a turnaround as students started the year off in their comfortable old sweatpants.
I recently found myself listening to Scotland based indie rock band, We Were Promised Jetpacks’ new album In the Pit of the Stomach, released last month and honestly didn’t think too much of it.
This year’s Airfest took place at MacDill Air force Base on the weekend of November 5, 2011,featuring the USAF Thunderbirds. With 500,000 people in attendance, the Thunderbirds demonstrated the high degree of skill required to take modern war-fighting crafts into battle. Mock battles were performed overhead, and while the aircraft flew near Mach speeds towards each other, spectators watched as the planes maneuvered sideways and upside down in order to avoid collision.
Saint Leo Cheerleading has come a very long way from what it has been over the past few years. Not only does the Saint Leo cheerleading squad attend every conference game for all sports teams, but they also practice up to three times a week and are in the fitness center working out and conditioning up to two times a week. This does not include when the cheerleaders go on their own time. Along with all these practices and conditioning, the members of the squad are preparing to compete in 2012. Yes, it is official. Saint Leo cheerleaders are going to compete this coming year, from March 31 to April 1 in Spirit Cheer’s: All American Nationals in the all girls’ non-tumbling division. This competition is a two day competition at the Peabody Hotel in Orlando, Florida involving many other competitive cheerleading teams.
In Time introduces a world where money doesn’t exist and people stop aging after they turn twenty five, which might seem ideal for many. Thanks to Oscar nominated Screenwriter-Director, Andrew Niccol, viewers learn that a world like this isn’t so much a dream as it is a nightmare. The catch is that after the first twenty-five years of life, each person is given one year. Since time is the new currency, in order to stay alive they must work to earn time on their clock. Not only is time the only thing keeping someone alive, it’s also what must be used to pay for everything and anything. Everyone in the less fortunate time zones struggle to keep their clocks ticking.
Over centuries, one issue within the literary world has sparked speculation and intrigue from academics and non-academics alike: did Shakespeare indeed author the plays that were credited to him?
On October 20, 2012, Progressive Black Men, Inc. held a presentation on how to “Dress for Success.” Although the title of the presentation was “Dress for Success,” the message was that it takes more than just looking the part in order to be successful. Walkens “Ken” Lallemand, President of Progressive Black Men, Inc. introduced Mr. Reggie Hill, Director of Recruitment, as guest speaker. Hill told the crowd that in order to be successful, one must do more than what an average person would do. Hill outlined four major rules that he noticed that successful people following, and says that he leads his life around them and if one desires success, these rules should be your starting point.
Networking is an essential skill to develop during your college years. Though it is important to know how to network with others, it is often met with much resistance because the subject of networking is one that brings on feelings of confusion and fear among others. The good news is that there is hope because there are a variety of ways to learn how to network with professionals for a job after graduation.
