This holiday season up until the New Year there will likely be holiday parties and family gatherings filled with once-a-year meals and tempting treats that can be overindulging. Although this month is the time for relaxation and fun, it can become quite busy making it difficult to stick to health and fitness routines that were practiced all semester.

Here are some tips to stay healthy and fit during this cheerful holiday.

1) Stay on your feet.

Keep moving and stay active. If you do not feel like taking a jog, walk around the house, outside or take the stairs in any building that you enter to burn a few calories. You can even add in a few squats or other small exercises depending on your preference. It is recommended that these be done in 10-minute intervals throughout the day. Certainly, it will make you feel great and keep your mind and body functioning.

2) Exercises

If walking is not enough, online sources recommend that you either exercise with weights or do high-intensity workouts at home for 20-30 minutes. You can also work out to fat-burning exercise videos on YouTube.

3) Drink a lot of water.

As we already know, water is essential for hydration and proper circulation of nutrients in the body. Consuming at least two glasses of water before a meal is something that is recommended on a daily basis but try to implement it during this holiday as it can prevent you from overeating. Additionally, if you add some lemons, it could be a great detox.

4) Eat in moderation.

If you do not have a particular diet, you do not have to restrict yourself from indulging in your favorite treat. You can simply limit yourself to one serving of any dessert you personally enjoy.

5) Healthier Recipes

If you do have a particular diet, incorporate healthier holiday foods.

6) Free your mind.

Meditate throughout your day. Snuggle up in your favorite blanket with a mug of hot cocoa and watch your favorite holiday film. You may have some responsibilities over the holiday break but try not to stress yourself. Whenever you feel overwhelmed, close your eyes for a few minutes and take deep breaths.  Additionally, take an evening walk, read a book or find other ways to pamper yourself; feel free to sleep all day if needed.

Christmas is the season to be joyful and merry, but do not forget to take care of yourself and try to enjoy conversations and quality time with family and friends.  Happy holidays!
