Students, are you feeling stressed and overwhelmed with old items laying around after the holidays? After Christmas, there is always a push to throw away the old items, such as clothes, shoes, and other things you do not use anymore to make room for all the new gifts. Especially after the new year just started, we want a clean fresh start!
To begin, there are many local places to give your clothes away. If you are feeling overwhelmed about clothes piling up, Goodwill, Salvation Army, Plato’s Closet, and local churches will gladly take donations! If you decide to go to Plato’s Closet, you give them a box of your clothes, they go through it, text you when they are done, and give you money for how much it is worth. It is a quick and easy way to get rid of some of your older items and make some extra cash!
Kaylee White, a freshman majoring in criminal justice said, “I would get rid of anything or donate anything that isn’t of use to [you]anymore that someone else could use all the time or even really need.”
More ways to declutter old items after the holidays are garage sales. You can get creative and hang up signs with your address, and people will buy your old items you do not want anymore. It is fun, and gets rid of a ton of decor, old toys, unique antiques, and more!
Grace Lundfelt, a freshman majoring in nursing, said, “I like to go through everything I own and if I have not used it in three months, I throw it away. Also, you can donate to shelters with items from your pantry to clear space.”
Moving forward, organizing is one of the best ways to start off the year in a good clean way. After you donate a good amount of your things to thrift stores, garage sales, and churches, you can organize the new items you have. Do not just shove random things in drawers. Organize it in a way you know is best for you! Hang up your clothes in a new way, like by color. Put your shoes on a rack in your closet. Invest in shelves to organize new gifts you may have gotten, or even some simple decor. Have fun with it and stay organized!
