The 82nd Golden Globes, held on Jan. 5, 2025, dazzled the audience in an incredible show of the most excellent film and television achievements from 2024.

The comedy and wit brought forth by presenter Nikki Glaser made history. Glaser had the honor of hosting the prestigious event all on her own, a feat that has never been done before.

Sharp-witted, charismatic, and energetic, the comedian set the stage ablaze for this night of never-to-be-forgotten moments, honing the excellence of talents that will be part of the golden memories of humanity in the future.

This edition was particularly remarkable not just for the quality of the productions that were nominated, but for being diverse and committed to inclusive and global stories. The entire evening, from the moment the stars hit the red carpet until the close of the gala, was one of those unforgettable moments, filled with emotional speeches, and recognition given to rising and established talents.

In the film category, the award for best drama film went to The Brutalist, a moving drama about the story of László Tóth, a Hungarian Jewish architect who escapes from Europe after World War II to rebuild his life in the United States, which won over the audience.

On the other hand, “Emilia Perez” won the award for best musical or comedy film. The film follows a Mexican cartel leader who recruits a lawyer to help him disappear by transforming herself into a woman.

“It was amazing to see such a variety of voices being recognized this year. Films like The Brutalist and Emilia Perez really stood out for their unique storytelling and strong messages,” says Emma Guidott, a freshman at Saint Leo majoring in elementary education.

In terms of performances, the award for Best Actor in a Drama went to Adrien Brody for his great role in “The Brutalist”. On the female side, the award for Best Actress in a Drama went to Fernanda Torres for her role in “I’m Still Here.”

The award for best actor in a comedy or musical was given to Sebastian Stan for his role in “A Different Man” and the award for best actress in a comedy or musical went to Demi Moore for her role in “The Substance.”

In the television category, “Shōgun” took the award for best drama TV series, which is about an English sailor who arrives in Japan in the 17th century and becomes a samurai. On the other hand, “Hacks” took the award for best comedy or musical TV series, which is about the relationship between a veteran comedienne and a young comedy writer.

The gala was filled with unforgettable moments, including Demi Moore’s emotional speech as she received her first-ever award for Best Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical or Comedy for her role in the horror comedy The Substance. In her tearful address, Moore spoke about the importance of self-acceptance.

Another memorable moment that got fans intrigued was when Zendaya appeared with what looked like an engagement ring on her left ring finger. Zendaya and her boyfriend(or possible fiancé), Tom Holland, are a very popular couple in the film industry.

They have been together for about three years now and even filmed in the Spiderman movies together. This got their fans extremely excited, and while it was not confirmed by either Zendaya or Tom, it is rumored to be an engagement between the stars.

Lastly, another touching moment at the gala was when the “Wicked” team won for cinematic and box office achievement. Director Jon Chu spoke about the joy of bringing people together to promote understanding and connection through film.

When asked about her favorite moment of the night, Guidott mentioned Zendaya’s rumored engagement. “I couldn’t stop talking about Zendaya’s appearance with that ring. It’s always exciting to see such personal moments from celebrities we admire,” she admitted with a laugh.

The 2025 Gala was full of remarkable moments celebrating the achievements of producers, actors, and films. Each of the recipients were very honored with their awards and hopes to expand their filming career this year as well.
