Happy World Smile Day! There is so much to smile about every day, and today is a reminder of exactly that!

In 1963, Harvey Ball, who was a business craftsman, created the smiley face. Over time, he felt as though his symbol was losing meaning. So, Ball created a day called World Smile Day! It is said that today is a reminder of the famous smiley face, as well as to be kind and to build others up.

Especially at the beginning of the school year, life can get stressful. Everyone has so many things on their mind. We also never know what someone is going through in life. So, it is important to encourage others by making them laugh, complimenting them, or just saying something that will make their day shine brighter. If you see something about someone that you admire, don’t hesitate to say it! When you do, it will spread positivity, because they could feel inspired to do the same to someone else.

Hannah Lynn, a freshman majoring in political science, said, “Going to events and doing homework with friends makes me smile!”

There are so many events on campus that will bring smiles to students’ faces! Every week, there is something new happening at Saint Leo. It is a chance to make new friends and to do something fun in your day. You could end up finding something you really love doing!

There are many ways to make people smile.

“It is as simple as doing something nice for someone, doing a good deed to make someone’s day,” said Lynn.

The creator of today would want us to think of today with a lot of meaning. That is why Ball created it. It is a special day to make someone’s day better. Whatever you say to someone could remain in their brain forever.

As you go about your day today, try to make someone smile! Or just smile at someone! You never know what just one smile can do.

Try to keep this in mind today:

A smile can change someone’s whole day, or even words of encouragement can make someone else smile. Have a goal today. Make someone laugh, or compliment them, or smile at someone random! Our world needs more positivity, and today is a day of happiness!
