It’s that time of year when spooky things start to happen; if you’re interested in haunted places in Florida, these spots might be one of your next road trips.
The first stop on our journey is Coral Gables Biltmore Hotel, where Fatty Walsh, a famous mobster, was killed in 1929. There are claims that he haunts the 13th floor of the hotel since the murderer went unpunished. Elevators would bring guests to the 13th floor, the lights would flicker on and off, and sounds are heard with no one in their room with the smell of cigar smoke.
The next destination is the Riddle House in West Palm Beach. It was built in the early 1900s and was a funeral parlor until Karl Riddle bought it. When the house was moved in the 1980s across town to Yesteryear Village, the ghost went there with the house. During construction, the workers claimed their tools would move around, or they’d be attacked. When they were unveiling the house, two couples dressed in twentieth attire that was never seen before were seen in an old photo during the unveiling. Joseph, who used to work for the Riddles, had hanged himself in the attic and is the most active spirits who mainly dislike men and attacks anyone who enters the domain.
The last one is only about 40 minutes away from Saint Leo students The Cuban Club in Tampa’s Ybor City. Cuban immigrants would gather there as they formed their own society. A young actor took his life after forgetting the words to his play; there was also a nine-year-old boy that drowned at the club. Images of ghosts have been caught on camera when there have been Paranormal investigations on the club, although no one is in the club. There are also stories of spirits playing the piano or riding the elevators.
As you investigate places to go during this Halloween season, see if any of these sparks your research interest.
