Niall Horan is most famous for his role as singer/guitarist in boy band, One Direction. The band lasted from 2010 to 2015, and the five members have since went their own ways to do other projects. Horan has separated into his own solo career as a musician and has just recently released his first solo album, “Flicker.”
Earlier this year, Horan released two singles “This Town” and “Slow Hands” to help ease his fan’s impatience and allow everyone to get a little taste of what was to come.
“Flicker” was first announced to be released in early this year, and according to Horan the date was first set in May of 2017, but got pushed back due to edits being made.
Horan took to Twitter to announce the official release date of his album, “it’s been a long time coming, but I’m delighted to announce that my new album ‘Flicker’ is out on the 20th of October. I hope you enjoy it,” the pop star tweets.
The album became number one on iTunes in the United States the first release week, “Flicker sold 152,000 total copies in its first week of release – a number assisted in part by a deal that coupled physical albums with concert ticket purchases,” according to Rolling Stone, online magazine.
Even with Horan’s large fan base, the breakout artist was still nervous about putting out solo songs. Horan revealed why he was hesitant to reveal his new album in an interview with People’s Choice commenting, “Even on the way over to LA, on the plane, I was thinking, I’m nervous. I was sitting on the plane for 11 hours and was like, ‘why am I nervous?’ Well, this is the first time I’ve put pen to paper in that form and given myself over.”
Despite Horan’s anxiousness about the album, “Flicker” was an astounding success for Horan’s first solo material. This success made Horan the third ex One Direction band member to achieve number one on charts states Forbes, online entertainment magazine.
The deluxe album includes thirteen songs, one of which features Maren Marris. Marris is accompanying Horan on his worldwide Flicker tour as his opening act.
The album includes a variety of styles of music. “Seeing Blind” is an example of an indie song on the album, which is also the song where Marris makes an appearance.
“Slow Hands” and “The Tide” are more pop-style, relating more to early One Direction days.
There are songs for everyone who is open to different types of music sounds. Horan took part in writing all of the songs featured on the album and is really coming into his own with songwriting. There is a long and successful career in the music industry for Horan, and his fans are excited for his upcoming tour, “Flicker,” and everything else Horan has in the works for the future.
