As the rest of the country enjoys pumpkin spice lattes, pumpkin flavored treats, the change in weather, and the change in color of leaves, many Floridians may find it a bit challenging to get into the spirit of fall.
However, this doesn’t mean that those who reside in the sunshine state can’t enjoy the festivities of fall or relish the essence of this delightful season. From fashion to music, activities to food, here’s a simple guide on how to embrace the season of fall, even if you reside in Florida!
Fashion
While those in the north and the mid-west normally double down on layering up in sweats and cozy attire, Floridians can still transition into fall attire even if it doesn’t incorporate doubling down on sweats.
For example, denim shorts can be swapped out for long lightweight flowy pants and bright-colored bodycon dresses can be swapped for an earthy colored maxi dress.
In addition, sandals can be swapped for ankle boots, or even fall-colored dunks for a more stylish look. These fashion tips and tricks will allow all Floridians to tap into their fall fashion without dying from heat stroke from the Florida sun!
Food
Fashion is not the only way that those in Florida can dive into that cozy fall feeling. A few culinary delights that people can enjoy include pumpkin spice pancakes, apple cinnamon muffins, pumpkin soups, apple crisps flavored ice creams, stuffed bell peppers, or even apple cider glazed chicken dishes.
“My favorite way to dive into the season of fall even though we don’t really celebrate fall in Florida, is by typically enjoying pumpkin spice pancakes from IHOP,” said Carlyia Miller, a senior double majoring in hospitality management and business accounting.
Likewise, if the dishes previously mentioned aren’t enough, another way that Floridians can arm up to the feeling of fall is by incorporating autumn seasoning and spices into their dishes and drinks. A few of these spices and seasonings include cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg.
Music and Activities
Even without the change of weather or the color of the leaves, music and various other activities can transport us into the feeling of fall. For example, instead of listening to upbeat music, you can swap genres to soft jazz or classical while watching a movie in a cozy setting with family or friends.
Similarly, fall is the season to dive into a new book as we anticipate cooler days. Reading a book while enjoying a warm cup of tea or a pumpkin spice latte is another way to embrace the fall vibes.
In Florida, the first day of fall is September 23, and while we may not have the traditional season changes there are endless ways to welcome the magic of fall! From transitioning to fall fashion, taking part in autumnal activities, enjoying fall culinary delights, to lighting autumn-scented candles, Floridians can truly immerse themselves in that cozy fall feeling.
So, stop at your nearby coffee shop, grab an iced pumpkin spice latte, and let’s celebrate September 23rd, the Sunshine State way!
