Movies allow our brains to take a break from the real world and watch a film that will make us want to teleport right through the screen, especially in Fall. With the leaves falling, all the houses decorated spooky, hot apple cider in hand, and pumpkin patches. Movies and shows make the Halloween season even better!

There are so many film genres to watch in this season of the year; for example, horror movies, spooky cartoons, and fall TV shows. With so many fall favorites, there is something for everyone. Here is your guide to finding a movie or TV show that gives you all the “fall vibes” in this season.

A series that has become very popular to watch every fall season is the popular TV show, Gilmore Girls

Gilmore Girls was created in the 2000s and tells the story of a single mother, Lorelai Gilmore, her daughter, Rory Gilmore, and their life together. They live in a small town called Stars Hollow that takes holidays and events very seriously.

Stars Hollow encompasses the American, small town fall aesthetic. It makes you want to jump through the screen and have a cup of coffee at its local café, Lukes, or read in the gazebo as the leaves fall.

Gilmore Girls is the perfect show to put on as you light a pumpkin candle and sip on some coffee.

Another Fall festive TV Show which encapsulates all things suspense and drama is Pretty Little Liars. This show was created in the 2010s and has an eerie but intriguing storyline that can keep you on your toes all Oct.

This thrilling show is about four high school girls who are stalked by an anonymous person who goes by “A” after their best friend, Alison, goes missing on Labor Day. The show focuses on each girl’s life and the mystery of what happened to their friend that day.

If you are more of a horror movie fanatic, there are hundreds of spooky movies to give you a scare, such as the Micheal Myers movie series called Halloween. This movie series was created in 1978 and produced its last movie in 2022.

These films consist of Michael Myers, a mental patient who killed his sister when he was a kid and comes out on Halloween night and kills teens. Other classic Halloween movies include Friday the 13, The Shining, IT, Carrie, and Beetlejuice.

Justiss Sloan, a sophomore majoring in criminal justice, says her favorite Halloween movie is Nightmare on Elm Street.

Although, there are many people who are not a fan of scary movies and would prefer a more “family- friendly” approach to this spooky holiday. Hocus Pocus is a 90s classic about a trio of witch sisters who are released on Halloween night in Salem, Massachusetts. As well as Halloweentown, a 1989 family comedy about a family who finds out they are witches.

Tamar Olguin Alzate, a junior majoring in clinical psychology, says “My favorite movie would be Nightmare before Christmas because of how it has the best of both worlds, as well as Cocobecause of how much it makes me miss home.”

From suspense and horror to vintage family films, there is something to watch every night of the Fall season. Brew some pumpkin spice lattes and binge-watch all these festive autumn movies and shows!
