Why do we say, “dorm room fried rice?” That’s because this dish is cheap, fast, and straightforward. Fried rice only needs rice and eggs. The magic of this dish is that you can use anything that is in your fridge, such as sausages, bacon, ham, and any vegetables you can put in this dish. Sometimes going out to eat or eating at the schools’ cafeteria can be old and less exciting. So, let’s try this after you feel satisfied in your dorm.
- Rinse the rice.
Rinsing can be unenjoyable, but it takes 20 seconds and will remove dust from the surface of the rice. Simply rinse the rice three times with cold water until the water is clean.
2.The ratio of rice to water is 1:2.
For most types of rice, you will always use a ratio of 1 cup of rice to 2 cups of water. The rest of the rice will be put into the rice cooker.
- Cut vegetables
While we wait for the rice cooker, it’s time to start cutting, as we mentioned before, the magical thing is that you can clean your refrigerator. All you need is to cut sausages, bacon, ham, and any vegetables. Veggies you can use are carrots, celery, lettuce, cabbage, and even some leftovers.
- Fry in any pan
Mix up the eggs in a bowl and scramble it with the veggies. You can mix with any utensils you find, whether it’s chopsticks, forks, or even spoons. Pour any oil in the pan that you can find in the dorm. Adding butter can make your fried rice more delicious.
- Pleasant stir fry
Interestingly, the rice that was left in the refrigerator yesterday was the most suitable for fried rice. The less moisture, the less chance your fried rice will turn out mushy. At this time also add soy sauce, fish sauce, salt, pepper, and onions. Chinese chefs generally don’t use soy sauce in fried rice, but we won’t tell you not to add it— all your choice.
6.Put the fried rice on the plate
This is my favorite step. Put the “Dorm Room Fried Rice” into the bowl, cover the plate, and then flip it. Then, a bowl of beautiful rice is presented to you.
By the way, if you don’t have a rice cooker in the dorm room, here are some tips.
ALWAYS REMEMBER 1:2. For most types of rice and any pan which you can find in your dorm room, please remember you need to use a ratio of 1 cup rice to 2 cups water. Double-check your rice packaging to be sure. After boiling the rice and water, cover the saucepan and reduce heat to low.
GET A STEADY SIMMER. Remember, letting it come back to a gentle simmer is essential. Otherwise, you run the risk of your water cooking off faster than your rice will get tender. Continue to cook for 15 to 18 minutes.
KEEP CHECKING. After 15 to 18 minutes, turn off the heat, do not remove the lid, and let it rest for a few minutes in the steamy saucepan.
Your rice is ready.
