On Valentine’s Day “About Last Night” hit the big screens. “About Last Night” is a romantic comedy  starring Kevin Hart, Regina Hall, Micheal Ealy, and Joy Bryant.

In this movie Kevin Hart definitely takes his acting skills to another level. In previous productions, Kevin Hart’s characters have usually been a bit farfetched, which makes it hard for audience members to really get into the storyline of the movie. However, Kevin Hart’s role as Bernie in “About Last Night” was a perfect fit. He’s able to play the tough but sensitive man’s man while still maintaining the perfect degree of humor.

Regina Hall plays the role of Joan. Upon meeting each other, Bernie and Joan sense an obvious chemistry, and the way they hook up is very unconventional.  After meeting in a bar in Los Angeles California Instead of following the traditional dating guidelines, the two characters jump straight to intimacy. So by their second date they were already introducing each other to friends. This is where the two’s best friends Danny and Debby come in.

Both Danny and Debby were considered the “dull” friends. In the sense that each person did what they were supposed to do, when they were supposed to do it, despite of what they wanted to do. Needless to say the two sparked some chemistry at first sight as well.

As the love story plays out, the two pairs become parallel to each other. Danny and Debbie are of course the more conventional dinner and a movie couple. On the other hand Joan and Bernie are the more spontaneous couple.  However, what makes the two couples parallel is that despite their expressions towards one another there is true love. Even though Bernie and Joan argue with each other, and attempt to date other people the two lovers always find their way back home to each other at the end of the night. Debbie and Danny show their love to each other by staying committed to each other during it all as well despite the challenges from past lovers and jealous coworkers.

Audience members watch as the two couples struggle to do what feels right for each other, even if it means going against the ‘norm.’

This movie is similar to “Friends with Benefits.” If you like movies about romances that go against the traditional guidelines from society you will love this movie. Also, there are more than a few good laughs throughout the movie. Overall, this movie gets about a 9/10.
