The storming of the United States Capitol building on Wednesday, Jan. 6, seems far from over. The FBI was warned of possible armed protests being planned at every state capitol for this upcoming Saturday, Jan. 16, a mere ten days later.
A bulletin posted by the FBI states, “[An armed group] has warned that if Congress attempts to remove the POTUS via the 25th amendment, a huge uprising will occur,” according to ABC News.
On Jan. 13, the House moved to impeach President Donald Trump a second time, making him the first president to be faced with possible removal twice. The article of impeachment stated that Trump was being impeached for high crimes and misdemeanors.
The House’s reasons for impeachment are accusations of incitement of insurrection, treason, and bribery, as well as accusations that Trump’s conduct on Jan. 6 were efforts to subvert and obstruct the results of the 2020 presidential election.
The sudden rage in the Capitol is due in part to many of Trump’s supporters being dissatisfied with the election results. The riots were seen as an attempt to disrupt Congress’ certification of the Electoral College vote count and prevent President-elect Joe Biden’s victory.
The violence on Capitol Hill resulted in the death of at least 5 people, including a Capitol police officer, Brian Sicknick.
Meanwhile, the FBI has also been informed that the same groups are planning to storm every government office when Biden is sworn into office, regardless of the state’s electoral votes. The FBI has received nearly 45,000 digital tips which are currently being sorted.
