The struggling Saint Leo women’s soccer team were looking to start a turnaround for the season against the Tritons from Eckerd College.

They started quick and strong taking an early two-goal lead in the game. In the opening four minutes freshman Carolina Solis-Deleon netted the Lions first goal far post with the assist from junior Laura Hallissey. The momentum continued to play in favor of Saint Leo because ten minutes later Hallissey scored a goal of her own on a deflected ball to extend the lead 2-0.

Even though down by two Eckerd didn’t back down as they responded well in the second half. One goal was scored by Becky Caraker. Her first goal came inside the box in the 52nd minute. The equalizing goal came in the 72nd minute with Paula Astiazaran’s shot bouncing off the crossbar and falling in.

The game went into overtime, and the first one ended scoreless. Within the first minute of the second overtime Eckerd was awarded a penalty kick to seal the win ending the game 3-2.

Saint Leo now falls to 2-7 on the season and 1-4 in the Sunshine State Conference. Saint Leo looks to snap their three-game losing streak against Lynn on Saturday, October 6th at 6 p.m.
