Whether it be the men or the women, Saint Leo tennis doesn’t put up many stats in the L section. The women’s team made easy work of Tampa now moving their rank up to the top 10 at No. 9. The Lions won the day with a dominate 7-2 overall score. This win puts the women’s team at an impressive 11-4 on the year. The Lions lost the previous day, March 27, with a final score of 5-4, so the team felt great to get out there and bring home another win Wednesday afternoon. Saint Leo put together a 2-1 advantage from doubles. Sophomore Maja Pindelska and junior Madeleine Gauthier overwhelmed opponents in their doubles match’s 8-2. Sophomore Kristyna Jurkova and Sophie Vliestra also delivered in the doubles category with an 8-4 final. However, doubles was not the only impressive performance for this team as they also shined in singles. Freshman Marta Vicens Miquel took the court for the first singles match killing it with a 6-3, 6-0 win to improve her record to an incredible 10-5. The No. 2 singles match was Jurkova who claimed two 6-4 wins making her almost perfect at 14-1. The No. 3 singles were played by Pindelska with a 6-1, and 6-4 wins. The fourth was played by Gauthier with wins of 7-6 and 6-1. Finally, the fifth match was played by sophomore Fabiola Cardenas with two 6-3 victories.
