In last week’s paper, we highlighted four of the eight inductees in the Class of 2018 Saint Leo University Hall of Fame. This week we will highlight the remaining inductees and give a brief biography about each person.
Kaitlin McKenna ‘10
A four-year player for the Saint Leo volleyball team, McKenna has a few career records in the program including attacking percentage (.379) and block assists (405). She also ranks in the top 10 of four other categories including second in total kills (1,376), total blocks (475) and games played (511) while also finishing seventh in solo blocks (70). In addition, she was an honorable mention AVCA All-American as a sophomore and a three-time AVCA All-Region. In 2007, she was named the AVCA South Region Freshman of the Year and an honorable mention All-SSC selection. As a junior, she was a First Team CoSIDA Academic All-District selection for her dominance in the classroom and on the court. Following graduation, she worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP and currently is an employee of Ernst & Young Accounting in their Sweden office.
Kyle Marceau ‘10
Marceau will be the first men’s lacrosse student-athlete to be enshrined in the Saint Leo University Athletic Hall of Fame. Even though he only was a Lion for three years, he is in the top 10 in points (130), goals (77), assists (53), shots (260), shots on goal (152) and man-up goals (9). He was named the Saint Leo Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year and a USILA Academic All-American during his senior year. He also was a two-time First All-Deep South selection and two-time Deep South All-Tournament teams, being named the 2010 tournament MVP. He was the first representative of SLU for the USILA North/South All-Star game after his senior year. After graduation, Marceau moved back to New Hampshire where he lives with his wife and son. He currently works for Lincoln Financial Group and is an assistant lacrosse coach for Concord High School.
Hannah Beard ‘10
Beard played all four years on the women’s soccer team and is one of the most decorated women that has been a part of the program. She was an All-Sunshine State Conference selection all four years and set numerous records throughout her playing career. She is the all-time leader in assists (31) and games played (76). In addition, she holds the single-season record for assists with 12 in 2008. She was named a two-time NSCAA Scholar All-American, three-time NSCAA All-Region honoree and an NSCAA All-American in her junior year. As a junior she also was named the SSC Offensive Player of the Year, leading Saint Leo to its first SSC Tournament Championship in the program’s history. Her final collegiate stats were: 76 games played, 46 goals, 31 assists and 123 total points. After her time as a Lion, Beard played women’s soccer professionally in the United States and Australia.
Brian Dayett ‘78
Dayett was a member of the 1978 NCAA tournament baseball team during his two-year collegiate career. He led the team in multiple statistical categories throughout his sophomore and junior seasons. He ended his collegiate career with 197 total bases, 11 homers, 78 RBI, 26 doubles and 10 triples. He batted .311 while playing in every game in his sophomore season and .381 in his junior year. This caught the eyes of Major League scouts, and the New York Yankees selected Dayett in the 16th round of the 1978 MLB Draft. In 1982, he was named AA Southern League Player of the Year as a member of the Nashville Sounds. He also won the 1983 New York Yankees Minor League Player of the Year. He played five seasons in the MLB, two with the Yankees and three with the Chicago Cubs. Following his MLB career, Dayett played four seasons in the Japanese Pacific League for the Hippon Ham Fighters before becoming a coach from 1997-2015.
