Super Bowl 53 showcased a defensive game between the New England Patriots and the Los Angeles Rams. Tom Brady made his ninth Super Bowl appearance as he looked to be Michael Jordan-esc and get his championship ring in his career. Jared Goff showcased his ability to win and be a leader by bringing his team to the Super Bowl in his rookie contract. Sean McVay was going to try to become the youngest coach to win the Lombardi Trophy in NFL History.

This game was referred to by some as the most boring Super Bowl that they have ever watched. This was an incredibly low scoring game that saw the Patriots win 13-3. Future Hall of Famer Brady played relatively pedestrian especially compared to his performance against the Philadelphia Eagles last year. Brady completed 60 percent of his passes for 262 yards and one interception. All this while not even throwing for a touchdown. Sony Michel had a great game where he rushed 18 times for 94 yards, an average of 5.2 yards a carry and scoring the only touchdown of the game. Rob Gronkowski had a good night hauling in six catches for 87 yards, including an important one that set up the Patriots’ only touchdown.

The Super Bowl MVP was one of Brady’s favorite receivers, Julian Edelman. He caught 10 passes for 141 yards tearing up the Rams high powered defense all night. Jared Goff’s late-season struggles continued as he only completed 50 percent of his passes for 229 yards and a huge game-ending interception. Todd Gurley continued to not show up in the postseason as he only rushed 10 times for 35 yards. CJ Anderson’s big postseason play was stopped as he only rushed seven times for 22 yards. The only big player on offense was Brandon Cooks who caught eight passes for 120 yards.

The first points were supposed to be scored right away, however Patriots kicker, Stephen Gostkowski, had a rare miss to the right of the goal post and the score remained 0-0 through the first quarter. The second quarter didn’t have much more action as only three points were scored by the Patriots making the halftime score 3-0. The halftime show featured Maroon Five, Travis Scott, and Big Boy. The third quarter started where scoring was abysmal again. The Rams tied the game up at three points with a long field goal. It wasn’t until the fourth quarter until the Patriots drove down the field to score a touchdown, and ice the game with a field goal to secure their 10-point lead.

This victory gives Brady his sixth championship, making an even bigger case for being the best quarterback ever. The amazing part was at the end of the game during the interview on the field Tom Brady admitted that he is not done and plans to keep playing. Fans have not seen the last of him and coach Bill Belichick as they plan to win it all again next season.
