New York Knicks Take Big Gamble Trading Porzingis

The NBA trade debate is still heating up as the New York Knicks made another surprising power move trading away what many considered their future franchise player. Kristaps Porzingis, ‘The Unicorn’, is over seven feet tall and can shoot from three or mid-range with a career field goal percentage of 43%. He was going to be the Knicks’ future; however, that didn’t stop them from getting rid of him.

The trade can mean one of two things, either the Knicks have intel that one or two superstars are going to sign with them in the offseason and they need the space, or they made the greatest leap of faith in history, and they are hoping to land Zion Williamson in the draft. It can be speculated that this offseason the Knicks could be going after Kevin Durant to make him the new franchise player. The Knicks dropped a lot of their salary by not only sending Porzingis but also Tim Hardaway Jr. and Courtney Lee to the Dallas Mavericks. In return, the Knicks got Deandre Jordan, two first round picks and a second-year guard with a mixed reputation in Dennis Smith Jr.

Many see this as a win for the Mavs as they now seemingly have two star-players on their team in ‘The Unicorn’ and the rising rookie star of Luka Doncic. Doncic has been lighting up the scoreboard leading all rookies in scoring and is the front runner for rookie of the year. This team now has two talented young players who can not only play for years but can be used to build an even stronger team around. For Knicks fans, all they can hope is that they use this as a cap space creator to land Durant, Kyrie Irving or even Kawhi Leonard. If this isn’t the case the Knicks could have completely fallen off the deep end with this one.
