On April 4, the Saint Leo Lions took to the turf in close battle against Rollins College. The game was a close one that came down to the wire. The contest was as heated as Florida is in the summer, not only were players getting into it but the fans were as well. Fathers from both universities almost had a fist fight before security separated them.

Things got started quickly in the first quarter where a combined seven goals were scored between the two teams. Junior Charlie Kurtenbach and senior Kyle Pauwels both scored early  giving the Lions a quick 2-0 lead. However, the lead didn’t hold as Rollins answered back with four goals of their own. Just before the end of the first quarter freshman Jordan Williams found sophomore Ethan Ticehurst for a score to cut the Rollins lead down to one.

The Lions came out strong in the second quarter answering with a three-goal run of their own to take the lead. Kurtenbach, junior Julian Taylor, sophomore Matt Shand and Pauwels all contributed to the goals. Rollins would later score one to cut the lead to one goal.

At the start of the third quarter Taylor and senior Jake Gilmour each netted an unassisted goal in the opening three minutes stretching the lead to 8-5. Rollins would not quit as they also scored their own goals giving them two extra points. The Lions would then get help from senior Anthony Visintin to move the Lions up and end the quarter 10-8. Rollins kept pushing as they scored twice again. They were pressing for overtime and at the time it seemed likely. The defense in the final 10 minutes was tough and it wasn’t until the final eight seconds did Gilmour find senior Zach Lysyk’s for the go-ahead goal giving Leo the win.
