There were a lot of big performances this past week in fantasy football, but a lot of them weren’t from star players. We saw T.Y. Hilton produce the most points in fantasy football on Sunday, and the former number one overall pick Jared Goff was the best quarterback. So here are the best performances from Week 9 in Fantasy Football.
T.Y. Hilton, WR Indianapolis Colts:
T.Y Hilton led all players in fantasy points this past weekend with 29.5 in standard scoring; this was his second time breaking the 20-point mark this season. It has been a boom or bust year so far for the speedster as he has three games with at least 17 fantasy points in standard scoring but has six games with less than five points. Hilton is one of the best deep-play threats in the league, and this week, quarterback Jacoby Brissett, found him for 45, and 80-yard touchdown passes helping lead the Colts to a win against the Texans. While this was a fantastic performance from Hilton, it doesn’t change his value much going forward. Just last week it was announced that veteran quarterback Andrew Luck will be shut down for the rest of the season, this puts a huge dent in Hilton’s fantasy value moving forward. The Indianapolis offense will continue to struggle with a mediocre run-game and average quarterback play leaving pass-catchers with little opportunity to bust out. Try and sell high on Hilton after a great game because he is no more than a low-end WR2 moving forward.
Jared Goff, QB Los Angeles Rams:
The Los Angeles Rams are one of the biggest surprises so far in the NFL this season, and a lot of their success is coming from their high-powered offense. The team is currently leading the league in points scored per game and finally, have a solid pass offense that can help keep them competitive. Much of the improvement is due to the growth of former number one overall pick Jared Goff and his ascension into being a solid starting NFL quarterback. Goff scored a position leading 28.4 fantasy points in standard scoring after throwing for a career-high of 311 yards and four touchdowns this past weekend. This was easily the best game of his young career and is hopefully a step in the right direction as he threw for two touchdowns and three interceptions in his last three games combined. Luckily for Goff owners, the second year signal caller is surrounded with playmakers like Todd Gurley, Sammy Watkins, and Robert Woods that can all help make his job a lot easier. He has one of the easier schedules down the stretch and with the Rams looking to make the playoffs, there could be some big games in the future. View Goff as an average QB2 with possible low-end QB1 every week.
Alvin Kamara, RB New Orleans Saints:
The talented rookie out of Tennessee continues to provide big numbers for fantasy owners on a weekly basis. This was easily the best game of Kamara’s career as he ran for 68 yards on ten carries and a touchdown, while also catching six passes for 84 yards and another score. The dual-threat running back provided owners a position high 25.2 fantasy points in standard scoring and was his fifth game this season with double-digit points. The most
impressive thing about Kamara’s numbers is that he has been doing this while being the second and third option behind Mark Ingram and even Adrian Peterson earlier in the season. He has received double-digit touches in each of his last five games giving owners a solid floor to work with each week as they start to consider the rookie to be a low-end RB2. Kamara’s fantasy arrow is pointing straight up, and he is becoming this year’s version of Tevin Coleman by providing great fantasy value as a second-string running back. He and Ingram are both strong options down the stretch as the Saints have one of the lightest schedules for the rest of the season. Keep rolling Kamara out there no matter the matchup.
Corey Clement, RB Philadelphia Eagles:
The Eagles scored a season-high of 51 points on Sunday against what was supposed to be an elite Broncos’ defense. Rookie running back Corey Clement was responsible for three touchdowns in the blowout win but was started in only 0.1 percent of ESPN leagues. It is always unfortunate when the majority of fantasy owners miss out on a big performance, but even the most talented fantasy analyst could not have seen this coming. Clement is an undrafted rookie who is sharing a backfield with four other fantasy relevant players. The situation almost mirrors that of the New England Patriots’ backfield where it is tough to predict who will lead in touches each game. After acquiring All-Pro running back, Jay Ajayi from the Dolphins earlier in the week, it didn’t seem promising that Clement or Wendell Smallwood would touch the ball at all. The incredible part of Sunday’s game was that the rookie led the team in rushes with 12 and was the only one to catch a pass. His two rushing touchdowns and receiving touchdown were great to see, although it is going to be hard to rely on this kind of output regularly. In such a crowded backfield Clement is still worth an add, but you will probably not feel comfortable starting him at any point down the stretch.
Doug Baldwin, WR Seattle Seahawks:
After a disappointing start to the season, it looks like Doug Baldwin has found his groove since coming off of a bye in Week 6. The veteran wide receiver caught seven passes for 108 yards and a touchdown against the Redskins on Sunday. Over the past three weeks, Baldwin has seen double-digit targets in each game and has a combined 22 catches. Owners who bought low on the veteran following a slow start to the season have been rewarded, and hopefully, this trend will continue. Baldwin has great chemistry with Quarterback Russell Wilson and with the Seahawks’ run game being almost non-existent, that connection is going to be very important the rest of the season. The Seattle offense has a favorable schedule remaining as they look to make it into the playoffs yet again. Baldwin should be viewed as a solid WR2 the rest of the way and is practically matchup proof.
