The Saint Leo’s women’s volleyball team had a tough challenge as they played the University of Tampa in very hot conditions on Tuesday afternoon. The Lions finished the day 2-3 against Tampa at the Saint Leo Beach Volleyball Courts. Saint Leo has dropped to 3-7 as we come to the end of the season. The University of Tampa have climbed to 9-8 after narrowly beating the Lions in Tuesday’s test.
Nylah Demps and Taylor George of Tampa defeated Britt Sederholm and Paloma Da Silva as Tampa took a 1-0 lead in the No. 4 flight which finished in three sets, 18-21, 21-16, 15-8. In the No. 2 flight the Lions fought back as Brooke Turner and Jamee Townsend of Saint Leo defeated Katie McKiel and Gabbi Pacatte of Tampa. The Lions won two out of the three sets which ended up 21-19, 17-21, 15-13 to make the score even at 1-1.
In the No.3 flight Nina Vattovaz and Reggie Van Devender defeated Tampa’s Leigh Buttner and Nicole Dominguez as they gave the Lions a promising 2-1 lead after taking their matchup in straight sets, 21-17, 21-18.
The Spartans managed to tie the game up at 2-2 after Alexandra Misca and Sarah Moore of UT defeated Annabella Arcari and Allie Daul to claim the win of the No. 5 flight. The scores after three sets ended up 21-19, 19-21, 15-10.
With the two teams all square, the winner would be decided in the No.1 flight where Anna Garrett and Jenya Kruglova gave it their all as it came down to the final game of the set which finished a close 15-11 for the University of Tampa.
