Another One Bites the Dust: Kareem Hunt’s Investigation

Professional athletes, especially NFL players, are icons in the United States. Whether it be a man, women, or child, people idolize these players, wanting to meet them or even be them. However, this fame comes with a big price for these players as they are always watched closely.

The NFL has been really cracking down on domestic violence recently because of all the botched cases it has had in the past. The latest case involves star running back for the red-hot Kansas City Chiefs. Kareem Hunt, a third-round pick who just previously lead the league in rushing has now found himself in a bigger issue than tough defenses. He has recently been recorded in a hotel for pushing and kicking a woman as she is on the ground.

Nowhere is safe for these stars as they are always being watched and filmed. It can be seen in the video that Hunt is having a yelling battle with this woman when she then punches him in the face. Hunt explodes as his friends try to hold him back but not before he gets to push the women. After leaving the view of the camera a man is seen being flung across the room like a rag doll and hit into the women who was then knocked on the ground. This woman was seen having trouble getting up and right as she was about to Hunt was seen kicking her once while she was on the ground.

This is a shame for the star back as I’m sure alcohol and anger clouded his judgment getting him into this horrible situation, it was reported that not only did this woman punch Hunt, she also entered his room without permission and called him racial names as well. It’s a shame because at first Hunt was doing well as far as keeping his distance, however, he exploded leading him to the worst decision of his life.

Hunt now joins the list of players whose names are even removed from EA sports hit game Madden NFL 19. The Chiefs now have themselves a player named halfback number 27 in their backfield behind their quarterback in the game.

His release from the Chiefs was a huge shock, not only because of his production and talent, but because most teams stick with their players until the investigation is over even if there is a video. What Hunt did was wrong, there’s not question about it, however, there are always two sides to the story and most teams have their players backs. It was reported that he was released mainly because he lied to the team. This incident happened in February early this year, meaning the team knew about this for some time. When Hunt was asked what happened he lied about the situation. Then once the video surfaced and it became an issue the team punished him for lying by releasing him.

Hunt is a great player and I’m sure since he is now cleared on waivers a team will pick him up. A reason why is look at Ruben Foster, former linebacker for the San Francisco 49ers. He has had two domestic violence cases and the Washington Redskins just picked him up off waivers.

I believe some possible landing spots for Hunt could be the Eagles because they are always trying to add pieces. Although it seems crazy another spot could be the Patriots. They need a piece or two to win the Super Bowl, and with the Josh Gordon experiment going well I could see Hunt maybe being a Patriot.

In the end there are two lessons with this, one, everyone is under a microscope, and people need to be aware of their surroundings because one incident can ruin a person life. Two it pays to tell the truth because people always respect honesty and the power of an individual’s word.
