Apartment 5: The New Face of Residence Life

The buzz has been all around campus for the past year. Ken Posner, Associate Vice President of Student Services and Frank Mezzanini, Chief Financial Officer of Saint Leo University, unveiled plans for two new dorm halls to alleviate the growing population of our student body. They were to be called Apartment 5 and 6. Apartment 6 would open in the spring of 2013 and Apartment 5 was to open this upcoming fall semester. Apartment 5 was to include resort style amenities such as a new game room, four relaxation pods, a fitness center, a café, a lounge and a multimedia room. These new apartments sounded like they were going to become one of the best places to hang out on campus and living there would be just as great. The apartments are intriguing, offering sophomores and juniors an appealing place to live. The amenities are suprising, even for a campus as nice as Saint Leo University.

Cafeteria’s ‘expansion’

The Saint Leo University dining hall recently opened its doors, figuratively and literally, to a new seating section on Monday, March 26. Overlooking Lake Jovita and the newly-filled-in bowl, there is now outside seating, complete with a canvas tent to protect the users from the elements. Not only does this new “expansion” give the cafeteria the ability to increase its capacity, from 350 to 400, it also allows students to take in the sunny Florida weather.

Bubba Watson Wins the Masters

Bagdad, Fla. native, Bubba Watson, won the 2012 Masters Golf Tournament in Augusta, Ga. which took place from April 5-8. Watson beat South African, Louis Oosthuizen in a two-hole playoff. The pair were tied after both players pared the 18th hole and remained at 10-under. After both pared the 18th again on the first hole of the playoff, on hole No. 10 Watson hit his tee shot well into the woods putting Oosthuizen in a great position to win the hole. But Watson followed up his disastrous tee shot with a brilliant one. With only a narrow window to work in, and his Masters hopes on the line, Watson struck the ball beautifully, hooking it just enough to land it on the green. Oosthuizen then missed a difficult putt that would have saved par, which set up Watson’s eventual tap-in for the win.

Wrath of the Titans

Did you ever see a movie and realize that the only reason you went to see it was because it had gnarly actions scenes? While Wrath of the Titans was a good action movie, the plot left something to be desired. It is the sequel to Clash of the Titans, an equally horrible movie in terms of plot and character development. While the cast is quite impressive in terms of acting chops, there is not any real acting happening, unless you count fighting with swords acting. The film has very little going for it, but the same cast, plus a few new faces.
