Now that Valentine’s Day has passed and we’ve stepped into March, it’s worth remembering that celebrating the people we love isn’t limited to just one month.

It was interesting to see how many people found a way to celebrate love in a broader sense during that time. But still, it was a season in which romantic love took the main spot on the stage, and many people who were single lamented about their current romantic status, thinking that this phase was one of waiting for something greater to come.

People feel they are missing something by being a young adult without a partner. But the fact is, this is not true. Someone’s life does not start only after they find their loved ones, and there are ways of making the season of singleness the best time ever.

One of the best ways of enjoying this phase of life and looking at it with more grace is realizing this is mainly a time in your life where you will be able to live exclusively for yourself.

Looking at what couples are doing together might make you feel as if you are missing something, but having the opportunity of exploring things on your own is also a blessing.

Being able to experience the trip of your dreams by yourself is amazing. Setting up a travel itinerary, getting to add everything you want to do without having to make concessions to fit someone else’s plans, taking your time on each place you go, feeling the moment, and being able to make last-minute changes just to enjoy it even more, is one of the perks of traveling solo.

Miranda Galaviz, a senior student majoring in biology, stated, “The best way to spend my time as a single person is trying new things and challenging myself to ultimately become the person I am meant to be.”

Some think the phase of singleness is a phase of waiting and expectations. However, it is not.

Single people are not waiting for anything. On the contrary, it is a perfect moment to start. Start working toward your financial goals, start reflecting on the future you want, and start to live the life you envision for yourself.

There is nothing better than getting into a relationship knowing exactly who you are and without regretting feelings. This is why, as a single young adult, this is the moment to create memories; the moment to spend time with your friends.

“Also, I love getting to know myself better and spending time with my loved ones,” added Galaviz.

It’s now that you can experience what it’s like to live in different cities, or even different countries, and try out different jobs and career paths. One degree can open up thousands of possibilities, and this is your time to figure out the routine and lifestyle that works best for you.

Of course, it’s possible to do all of that while being in a relationship at a young age, but it’s important to remember that growing is already hard, and growing with another person can make it even harder.

Just imagine twenty years from now, and you are telling your kids about the time in college when you lived your best life in another country during a semester abroad, or that other time you and your friends spent the whole night driving without a destination, just talking and sharing the deepest feelings.

Now is the time to live fully and collect the memories you’ll carry with you. Being single isn’t a setback; it might be the season that shapes you most.
