Throughout the decades, there have been few artists whose music has stood the test of time and are still relevant. To name a few are The Beatles, Michael Jackson, Frank Sinatra, and Queen. These musicians were personable and offered something new to the music industry at their time. They challenged norms and pushed boundaries to create music that was new and necessary. When musicians want to create music that continues to be relevant, they need to create something different and powerful. Much of the current mainstream radio music is all the same. The lyrics are merely rewordings from similar songs and the beats are so similar that after listening to a few songs, they all seem to blend together. This music will not be Kesatimeless, though it may be entertaining.
For music to be groundbreaking, artists must consider how it will entertain listeners, the message their songs are sending, and if their music has been created before. Many artists seem to consider only one or two elements, but a few are sending powerful messages. Few artists are creating a new sound and music that is relevant to listeners. A few current musicians that have a chance at being timeless are Kesha, Ed Sheeran, Beyoncé, and Taylor Swift.
Kesha is sending powerful messages through her art. She is speaking up about political and relevant topics that most people have been afraid to speak about previously. She had the courage to be open with the public about her experience with sexual assault and the pain she suffered. Her music is extremely emotional, relatable, and brave. It is true art with the emotion it brings. Kesha’s lyrics are so personal and raw. Also, she is very accessible to her fans on social media such as Instagram
Ed Sheeran creates new types of music. He is a pop singer, but he includes his English roots to make his music interesting. He has popularized the “folk-pop” genre that many fans have never heard before. His songs, too, are personal, and it is clear he puts a lot of thought into the message he is sending and how he wants to relay it. He has won four total between 2016 and 2018. On social media, he is open with fans, but does not overshare. He posts his life updates on Instagram, such as his engagement and birthdays, but not until he has had time to enjoy those moments privately.
Beyoncé is a household name that will stick around for years to come. She has revolutionized the music industry with her strong vocals and meaningful lyrics. She began in the group, “Destiny’s Child” and has done amazing for herself after going solo. Her voice is so powerful, and her music videos have sparked many conversations among young adults. She gives hints in her videos and music that will leave fans guessing and talking about it. She also created a visual album which won a Grammy.
Taylor Swift creates emotional and relatable music about relationships. She is an incredible lyricist and a savvy businesswoman. She can turn her thoughts and emotions into lyrics that nearly anyone can relate to. Her music videos are well thought out and are a great visual representation of her songs. She is very careful of what she puts into the media. She is purposeful about her words and actions in public and has gotten more attention recently for her decision to be more private about her personal life.
These artists have all proved that they worked hard to get to where they are. Kesha has gone through hardships publicly and has become a huge role model for women, empowerment, and overcoming sexual assault. Ed Sheeran came from nothing, from singing on the streets in London to gaining attention for his raw talent. He also does not have the typical appearance of a celebrity; he has proved that anyone can reach their dreams with talent and dedication. Beyoncé is an exceptional role model, given her honesty and confidence, and Taylor Swift has broke records with her long list of awards and has bridged the gap between country and pop music. They all are likely to be remembered as some of the best artists of all time and listened to for decades to come.
