Super Bowl turned Har-Bowl

In this weekend’s conference championship games, the dominant second half performance from the Baltimore Ravens placed them into the Super Bowl to face the San Francisco 49ers. This match-up was unexpected as the Baltimore trumped the New England Patriots in the second game on Sunday and San Francisco made a fourth quarter comeback to beat the Atlanta Falcons.

Which Teams will go to the Super Bowl?

The 2012-13 playoff season has been full of upsets and amazing victories, including the Atlanta Falcons nearly losing to the Seattle Seahawks, and the San Francisco 49ers defeating the highly favored Green Bay Packers. On Jan. 17, a few days before the San Francisco 49ers competed against the Atlanta Falcons for the NFC divisional title, and the Baltimore Ravens went against the New England Patriots and fought for the AFC division, several members of the community were asked who they thought would survive the final round of playoffs and go to Super Bowl XLVII. BCS System Lucks Out Again

The BCS works itself out in the end. Entering week 11 of the college football season, there were three remaining unbeaten teams—Kansas State, Oregon, and Notre Dame—and all of the stars were aligning towards BCS chaos. Notre Dame, the beloved Notre Dame, was going to finish the season undefeated and be left out of the national championship. And the SEC, the best conference in college football, was not going to have a team in it, either.

Men’s Hoops: Strong second half ends three-game skid with win over Barry

Saint Leo, Fla—The Saint Leo University men’s basketball team earned a huge conference win on Saturday, Jan. 26 over Sunshine State Conference for Barry University after a strong second half in which it overcame a 9-point halftime deficit. Despite Barry’s hot start and Saint Leo’s meager first-half performance, the Lions came out on top 63-51. The win moved the Lions to 9-9 overall and 3-5 in the SSC.

Moonlight Madness Motivates Many

A Saint Leo tradition for many years, Moonlight Madness signals the start of a brand new basketball season. Usually, the event is filled with special performers and big prizes. This year, the Student Government Union and the Athletics department decided to go for a simpler and more interactive event for fans and teams alike. The result was a Moonlight Madness that many students found more enjoyable than the previous year.

Referees Return

A 112-5 vote on Saturday, Sep. 29, ended the NFL referee lockout. The officials were returned to the job that is full of disagreements, unruly fans, and split-second decisions.

Sport Business Speaker Series

The Sport Business Program has partnered with the National Sports Forum to form a Sport Business Speaker Series for not only Sport Business students, but the entire Saint Leo community. The partnership will create an opportunity for all that are interested to listen and learn from some of the best professionals in the sport business world. Speakers will join the conferences either by way of video chat or live appearance in TECO Hall inside the Donald R. Tapia School of Business and will speak about their area of expertise in addition to answering any questions that students may have.
