Saint Leo business students get a feel for management styles during hands-on field trip

On Feb. 15, a van full of Saint Leo University students rolled into the Trader Joe’s parking lot instead of sitting down in their normal afternoon classroom setting. This field trip mission was spearheaded by Peter Marian, an instructor of management at Saint Leo, who figured that turning the on-paper case study into a real-life experience would be transformative for his students.

Inside TECO Hall, groups gathered to hear from the mayor of the town of St. Leo, Vincent D’Ambrosio. The purpose of the town hall meeting, which was organized by Saint Leo University’s Student Government Union (SGU), was to discuss the identity of the town of St. Leo.

Saint Leo holds ‘Success after Service’ event on Zoom

Leslie Coffey, the vice president of military engagement for American Corporate Partners (ACP), is a woman dedicated to goals. Specifically, she seeks to help others achieve their lifelong dreams. On Feb. 1, Coffey joined both the Saint Leo Office of Military Affairs and Services and the WorldWide Student Life Department for an online seminar entitled “Conversations about Success Beyond Service.”

Seniors snag President’s Cup in friendly Family Feud

On Wednesday, Jan. 25, students and staff kicked off the President’s Cup with a game of Family Feud. The President’s Cup is an event started with the intention and goal of supplying more involvement for the seniors. A new event will occur each month, meaning repeated fun and competition for students and staff. The President’s Cup will run until May 2023, when the final game for Saint Leo University seniors will take place.

Students react to Saint Leo’s meal plan change

Saint Leo University sent a mass email to all students on Dec. 9, informing them the unlimited meal plan will be discontinued for the 2023-2024 academic year and that the university “will now offer weekly 19-, ten-, and five-meal plans for resident students.” However, Lions living in dorms without a kitchen must purchase the 19-meal plan. Furthermore, the email stated that meal plans for students and commuters will cost an additional 6.67 percent on average.

Saint Leo’s annual Christmas concert

As the violinists perform their introductory songs and the audience is settling in, behind the scenes, there is a buzz going on in the room next to the Black Box Theatre. The singers are prepping for their last big Christmas concert of the season, filled with classical Christmas songs and beautiful music from the orchestra.

Saint Leo’s Christmas tree lighting  

As the sun set on the horizon, the Christmas tree lighting ceremony was set up near the clock tower outside of the Student Activities Building. The ceremony began with an introduction speech by the Vice President of Student Affairs, Jen Shaw, accompanied by Santa and Mrs. Claus. The promise of games, activities, and performances by Lucas Nocera, the Assistant Director of the University Ministry, as well as the music department had the crowd brewing up Christmas spirit.
