On Monday, April 5, Dr. Monika Kiss, Associative Professor of Mathematics, hosted a “Food for Thought” at the Greek-themed restaurant, Acropolis.
Dr. Kiss decided to host this program because, in the past, she had been a regular participant. However, “Food for Thought” had been put on pause for a few years. Once, she heard that it had started back up, Kiss took a shot at being a sponsor once again. Being Hungarian, Kiss actually, wanted to take people out to experience cuisine close to her culture.
In preparation for the event, she simply called the restaurant three weeks in advance and made arrangements with one of the managers. Other than the fact that she has hosted a “Food for Thought” at Acropolis before, it was something she expected the students to enjoy through engaging conversations and delicious food.
The restaurant had a certain retro Greek touch, from the ceiling and the lights to the flooring. In addition to the variety of Greek food options, they had persons performing some unique Greek dining traditions, such as breaking plates to line dancing and napkin throwing.
“They threw napkins all over the place and I thought that was pretty cool” said Sophomore and Business Administration Major Karliya Rahming. Though the food was not as great as she expected, it was still good and she enjoyed the stuffed mushrooms the most.
Sophomore and Political Science and Economics double major, Celine-Deon Palmer, said she appreciated the fact that they served a lot of appetizers. According to Palmer, though the food was good, and the overall experience was complimented by the chance to simply get out and conversate and get to know other people.
A rather entertaining night, with a good turnout, Dr. Kiss’s expectations were indeed met. She’s hoping to once again keep making “Food for Thought” a regular occurrence at Saint Leo.
