Kayla Bryant, a senior history major at Saint Leo, presented a research paper at this year’s Florida Conference of Historians (FCH), which convened in Punta Gorda from March 10-12. Bryant’s paper, “Getting High to the Beat: Drug References in Popular Music from 1980 to 2016 and What They Say about American Culture,” joined two others on a panel that explored the “Hidden Histories of the Past Century.” Each year, the FCH, a professional organization for scholars teaching history in colleges and universities throughout Florida, accepts a small number of undergraduate papers for presentation at its annual conference. Bryant’s paper was one of those select few accepted this year, and was warmly received by the audience, commentator, and other panelists. Bryant joined several Saint Leo faculty members who also participated in the conference proceedings.
