On the afternoon of Wednesday, Sept. 5, the pride hosted an activity for its students within its grounds; taking place both inside and out of the cafeteria, students had the opportunity to enjoy an old-fashioned carnival.
The cafeteria’s décor had been slightly modified as posters and cardboards everywhere pointed out what was going on. Clown posters were stuck to the wall and balloons were displayed against the main entrance. However, there wouldn’t be a carnival without any games. Thankfully, a game area was organized on the patio so that the students could test their luck and win a couple of prizes.
Everything had been put in order to remind the crowd of what it feels like to experience a good carnival, and even the food was typical of the festivity. The main course featured hot dogs and burgers that one could walk along a table and customize however they liked. A cotton candy machine had replaced the station that usually displays pasta, and exotic foods and another station displayed sweets and desserts like chocolate brownies.
Halfway through the event, it started to rain. Everyone thought that the event was done for and that the carnival had met an early end. However, As if Mother Nature was on our side, the nasty rain cleared out to give way to a sunny afternoon. The activities resumed so that everyone could enjoy the activity as a whole.
History major Mikayla Alford was excited about the event. “It felt pretty great to win all those prizes at the carnival,” she recalled.
Alford seemed to have won everything that was there to win at the event, from a basketball ball to a stuffed elephant, Mikayla was on a hot streak.
Sophomore, economic major Schneider Zamo was also on a roll, “That was really awesome and the prizes were worth it,” he said.
Even though Zamo seemed to be on a winning streak, he chose to leave some prizes, only keeping the basketball that we won.
Sophomore Valdini Eugene, minoring in politics, did not come for the prizes. “I only came here for the food,” he recounted. Other students like him were not even paying attention to the activities and were also just there to eat; they treated the event like they would treat any regular day.
For upperclassmen, this was a regular sight for them as they had grown accustomed to the events going on on campus. Many of the organizers were also in attendance.
The carnival has been a great start to introduce this year’s activities and left many waiting for more.
