Leo’s love week was once again upon us and romance was in the air. The incessant giggling, the teddy bears, the boxes of chocolate and the couples exhibiting, more than usual, their feelings for each other was definitely a sign that Cupid had found some targets among the Lion community.

To celebrate love, The ISA, Intercultural Student Association, partnered with MISO, Multicultural and International Services Office, organized an event on Valentine’s Day in the School of Business’s lobby on Feb. 14. “A Night on Love” Lane is an annual Saint Leo classic.

Edna Hernandez, a sophomore majoring in business management and the president of ISA, qualified the event as a fundraising geared towards earning money to award scholarships to International students, as she feels that there is not a lot of help for them. All the money that the ISA records throughout its different activities, like the International Food Night, exist for the sole purpose of raising enough money for international scholarships.

A Night On Love Lane, in itself, had a wonderful set up. Round tables were displayed across the lobby of the School of Business, draped in pink tablecloths. Fake rose petals covered the tables and at their centerpiece stood mini candlelit vases. Among the attendees were three couples, some ISA members, and representatives of MISO. The ISA members would double as waiters who would provide the guests with desserts and refreshments.

The musical performance for the event was handled by a duet: Edward Gemma and Keegan Abreu. Interpreting contemporary love songs from the repertoires of artists like Ed Sheeran, One Direction, and Shawn Mendes, they would surely have gotten a round of applause from the original singers. Gemma and Abreu are both talented seniors who love the occasion to perform and are currently looking for gigs in local establishments in the area.

Taking an initiative, the couples expressed their love to each other by slow dancing on the beat. Chloe James-Faulkner, freshman majoring in social work, came in with her beau and had a good time, though with one concern.

“I thought that there would be more people,” Chloe confided, taking account of the presence of only three couples.

Otherwise a great event, the presence of more couples would have undoubtedly added to the beauty of “A Night on Love Lane.” The romantic atmosphere paired with the divine dessert surely made a positive impact on the attendees and the next edition should definitely have more attendees.
