Finding the right costume can be difficult, because the list of ideas goes on and on. But Halloween doesn’t have to be expensive, you can actually save money by creating what is known as a “do it yourself” (DIY) costume.

It’s always fun to pick out Halloween costumes, because you are able to express your creativity by choosing to be anything you want. There are several factors that affect your decision as to what costume is the right one for your personality, budget and comfort level. This can be challenging because of the wide range of options that you have.

Finding the perfect costume takes money, time, and, of course effort. But what if I told you that you could actually create your own costume this year. DIY costumes are a great way to save money. You are taking what you already have in your closet, or buying inexpensive items in order to create your costume.

Some of the most popular DIY costumes include, but aren’t limited to: ghost, nerd, mime, Audrey Hepburn, Waldo, Greek goddess, a black cat, and most people’s favorite zombie.

If you want to be a ghost this year for Halloween, you may be surprised at how easy it is to create this costume from what you already own. This is one of the easiest costumes to make because all you need is a white bed sheet. The steps you need to take include getting a white bed sheet, and cutting out two holes for your eyes. Yes, it really is that simple!

A very popular DIY costume is the standard nerd look. This is a great way to embrace the nerd within you, by just using the clothes you already have in your closet. Here is what you need to do, wear a pair of oversized glasses and stick a bandage in the middle. If you have suspenders wear them, but if you don’t have suspenders pull your pants up as high as they can go. It’s also a good idea to tuck your shirt into your pants, this will create the perfect nerdy look. Also putting a pen or a pencil in your shirt pocket will put a lot more emphasis on your DIY costume.

If you want to rest your voice for the night and step outside of yourself, then the mime costume is perfect for you. All you need for this costume is to get some cheap white paint, which you will use to paint your face. Focus on wearing all black clothes, or a striped black and white top if you have one wear this with a pair of black pants. If you have a pair of white gloves throw them on, this will complete your DIY nerd costume.

Do you want to be a celebrity this year for Halloween? Well, Audrey Hepburn is the picture-perfect celebrity to create a homemade look for. You just can’t go wrong with Audrey Hepburn. You will need: a black dress, black gloves, a pearl necklace, black heels, but forget your cute tiara.

“Where’s Waldo?” If you don’t mind hearing this asked all night, then Waldo is the ideal DIY costume for you to wear. This costume is also very simple to create with clothes that you already own. Here is what you will need: a red and white-striped shirt, a red and white cap, black and round-rimmed glasses, and a simple pair of blue-jeans.

Another fun costume that involves a white sheet is being a Greek goddess, this outfit requires very little effort on your part. All you will need for this look is a white sheet, gold jewelry, and a gold ribbon which will be your belt. This is as simple as it gets, very minimal work needed to create this DIY costume.

If you’re considering being a black cat for Halloween, you might not be the only one wearing this costume. This is an exceptionally easy costume to make. All you really need is cat-ears which are inexpensive, a black marker or eye-liner to draw whiskers on your face, and black clothing.

When most people think about Halloween, they usually think of zombies. Thanks to shows such as The Walking Dead, it’s a great costume. You will need a few things to create your zombie-like look. Make-up is essential to creating the look of death, you will also need to spill fake blood all over your clothes. It doesn’t really take much to be a zombie on Halloween.

Halloween is the one day you can dress up as whatever you want, and actually get away with it. So just remember to choose wisely, have fun and be safe!
