There are many interesting, legendary Christmas stories. Telling stories has been one of the essential things to do during the holidays, and they range from stories specifically for kids to stories for the entire family to read and enjoy together.
“A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens is the top Christmas book. The book was published in London by Chapman & Hall on Dec. 19, 1843. John Leech illustrated the first edition which was sold out by Christmas Eve. The story speaks about an old, lonely, miserable man by the name of Ebenezer Scrooge. He was visited by his former business partner, Jacob Marley’s ghost along with the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come. The story was inspired by events that previously happened in Dickens’ life.
The second best Christmas book is “The Father Christmas Letters” by J. R. R. Tolkien. They were written between 1920 and 1942 by Father Christmas for his children. The letters were put out by the Tolkien Estate on Sept. 2, 1976, which was Tolkien’s third death anniversary. Baillie Tolkien, his youngest son Christopher’s wife edited the letters. The stories are told from Father Christmas’ view and his secretary, in a series of letters. The adventures and misadventures of Father Christmas and his assistants, the North Polar Bear and the two cubs, are recorded. Stories about the large, significant northern lights and troublesome Polar Bear are recounted.
A third good Christmas book is “The Christmas Miracle of Johnathan Toomey” by Susan Wojciechowski. The book was illustrated by P. J. Lynch, copyrighted on October 2nd, 1995. The book teaches many valuable lessons that are about love, healing, and loss. The purpose of this is to remind people to love everyone. People may seem coldhearted and obnoxious, but there is a purpose as to why they are the way they are.
The fourth best Christmas book is “The Gift of the Magi” by O. Henry. It is a short story about a young, married couple showing how they handle the hardships of purchasing secret Christmas gifts for each other with a small amount of money. The moral of the story is about giving back, which is what has made the Christmas season popular. The book was published on Dec. 10, 1905, and is popular for its plot-twisting end.
Lastly, “A Christmas Memory” by Truman Capote is a great Christmas story. It was published in a magazine in Dec. of 1956, reprinted in “The Selected Writings of Truman Capote” in 1963. In 1966, it was issued in a hardcover edition by Random House and had been published multiple times in many editions and anthologies. The story is about a young boy, Buddy, and his older cousin that live poorly, yet save their money for Christmas.
Christmas stories mainly revolve around Christmas itself but with special twists. They are extremely creative and will surely put readers in a Christmas mood and spread holiday cheer.
