The new film, Morning Glory, starring Harrison Ford, Diane Keaton, and Rachel McAdams, delivers as both a comedic and inspirational piece. It’s centered on workaholic Becky Fuller, played by McAdams, who is hired to revamp a subpar morning news show. Becky has little to work with as her staff is filled with washed out, jaded reporters and talentless talent. The show’s ratings are very low and the pressure is on as Becky races to save the show from cancellation. She hires Ford to work alongside Keaton as the show’s head newscasters. Unfortunately for her, Ford, a bitter aging man, drags his feet whenever she tries to get his help in saving the show. McAdams is delightful as a peppy Becky who is a master of persuasion and refuses to give up even in the grimmest of situations. Her strong character and drive are remarkably inspirational. Keaton plays the role of a diva very well and diverges from her typical role. There is wonderful chemistry among the cast, especially Ford and Keaton. Ford shows his acting debonair through his role as an angry, yet brilliant Mike Pomeroy. The trailers for this film do not do it justice, as they seem to make the movie seem somewhat cheesy. However, the film manages to capture true emotion in the characters along with good, raw humor, and tie a very strong inspirational message into the mix. The combination of an engaging plot, well-seasoned actors, and some truly funny moments makes this film a prominent diamond in the rough.
