Graduating students, your Graduation is coming soon! Graduation is such a special moment and a huge accomplishment that you have completed.

But, before you attend, it is important to have knowledge of what to do, what to wear, and the history behind graduation before you cross that stage!

First, make sure you are wearing the correct formal attire. For the women, wear formal dresses, skirts, blouses, with dress pants, and dress shoes. For men, dress shirts, formal pants, and dress shoes. Dress your very best!

Mary McCoy, from the marketing team, gives good advice on the matter, “Wear comfortable shoes and wear nice clothing! This is a special event, and these are memories that graduates will have for a lifetime.”

Next, you need to be on time! You should be there earlier than the scheduled time; that way, you can prepare, take pictures, and find a seat.

You don’t want to rush in late and make a scene. You also don’t want to miss your college graduation. It is a big moment worth celebrating.

During graduation, you will feel excited, anxious, and ready for your big moment. But it is important not to talk to others around you, instead, listen to the speeches, and be polite. Stay in your seat and listen to instructions on what to do.

As you walk the stage, smile and be you! Don’t do anything that is disrespectful as you cross that stage. Shake hands, get your diploma, and add a wave, a joyful expression, or anything that expresses who you are.

As graduation is over, walk over to your loved ones, make sure to thank everyone for coming. You can also take pictures with your graduating friends and your family.

Have you wondered where graduation traditions come from or how they started? The cap you will wear is inspired from “biretta”, which is a square cap, with three projections on the top. It is also called the mortarboard. Back in the 14 and 15 centuries, only masters and doctorate degree swore the cap, but now every graduate does!

The gown started in the twelfth century when graduates wore it because they wanted to be warm since the university had poor heating at the time.

Another tradition is involving the tassel.

According to the website homeschooldiploma.com, “moving the tassel from the right side to the left symbolizes the movement from being a candidate of a degree to a recipient of the degree.”

In our generation and society, we celebrate many things and value many traditions and sometimes we don’t even know why we do it or where those traditions came from. So, it is cool to learn and remember why we celebrate college graduation the way we do.

College Graduation is a special occasion.

One, you will look back and reminisce. Graduation deserves respect and honor. So, dressing in formal attire and understanding the traditions of this celebration is another way of acknowledging the significance of this important milestone.
