DADE CITY, Fla.- The Lions’ men’s lacrosse team improved to 2-0 on the season after throttling Lincoln Memorial University 20-6 in their home opener.

Senior Jake Gilmour’s two goal, four assist performance propelled him to become the Lions’ career points leader with 177. Gilmour entered the season third, overall, in NCAA active career assist leaders with 82.

The Canadian-born attacker set the Lions’ single-season record for points last season with 30 goals and 34 assists for a total of 64 points.

Gilmour was not the only Lion receiving recognition after the win. Both the offense and defense shined in the match, with two Lions earning SSC weekly honors.

Senior Kyle Pauwels was named SSC Offensive Player of the Week after his nine-point effort Saturday. Pauwels recorded three goals and six assists, with four of those assists coming in the first six minutes of action. Junior goalie Thomas Tatarian earned the SSC Defensive Player of the Week honor after stopping 18 of the 24 shots he faced on net.

Junior attacker Charlie Kurtenbach registered three groundballs and fired in five goals to lead the Lions in scoring.

The Lions will take the field at University Turf Stadium looking to maintain their perfect record Friday, Feb. 16 against the winless Young Harris College Mountain Lions. The game will begin at 7:00 p.m.
