Words from the Student Government Union, Vice President of Finance Candidate: Derick McIntosh

0

Derick McIntosh , Sophomore Accounting and Economics major, sat with the Lion’s Pride Newspaper  and talked about his Candidacy in the Student Government Election.

What experience do you have which makes you qualified for the position you’re running for and a better choice than your opponent(s)?

I am currently a Senator for the Student Government Union and also a member of the Appropriations committee. Being a part of the Appropriations Committee has allowed me to shadow and learn from the current Vice President of Finance, Marlene Camacho. It has allowed me to acquire the experience needed to know exactly how to get the job down. I believe such first-hand experience is ideal in a candidate which is why I feel that I would be a better choice than my opponents.

Why do you want this position and what/who inspired or motivated you to run?

I want to become the SGU Vice President of Finance because I admire how fortunate we are as a University to have such budgets put in place to allow our campus to remain vibrant and alive at all times. I want to give back to the University and be a predominant factor in allowing the campus to remain active and the students to be afforded many new experiences of both growth and recreation. I am running for this position due to self-motivation and the urge to give back.

What do you hope to accomplish and how do you plan to accomplish these goals in your position?

During my time in office, I hope to not only promote awareness for the rules of allocations but to also bring positive reform to the SGU rules of allocations to ensure that the process of allocating funds is made much easier for all parties involved. I plan to accomplish this goal through collaboration with the entire SGU Senate body and the Appropriations committee to ensure the amendments are made. I feel this will not only be beneficial to all of us currently but also to all future Vice Presidents of Finance, Appropriations members, Senators and SGU recognized clubs.

What would your first action in office be, if you are elected?

If elected, my first order of business is to elect my own Appropriations Committee who will work hand-in-hand with me in the upcoming school year in order to ensure that all SGU recognized clubs (within reason) are allocated deserved funds. Electing this committee will be a very important step in ensuring all of our goals are met.
