Major League Baseball Spring Training is an annual tradition, and teams are getting ready to start playing in the coming weeks. The Grapefruit League fixtures 15 teams from both the American and National League that will play from the end of February until the end of March. DADE CITY, Fla.- The Lions’ men’s lacrosse team improved to 2-0 on the season after throttling Lincoln Memorial University 20-6 in their home opener. Senior Jake Gilmour’s two goal, four assist performance propelled him to become the Lions’ career points leader with 177. Gilmour entered the season third, overall, in NCAA active career assist leaders with 82. The Canadian-born attacker set the Lions’ single-season record for points last season with 30 goals and 34 assists for a total of 64 points. It was an exciting weekend for Saint Leo athletes, coaches, and supporters, as nearly every team of Lions that played over the weekend walked away with at least one W. On Friday, the women’s tennis team moved their record to 2-0 after sweeping State College of Florida 7-0. This win followed their season-opening victory over Gustavo Adolphus College Thursday, where the Lions also failed to drop a match, defeating their opposition 9-0. The New England Patriots and the Philadelphia Eagles competed on the biggest stage in American sports as the Eagles won by a score of 41-33.  Several offensive records were broken as the Patriots’ defense looked like it reverted to the beginning of the season, and the Eagles had trouble stopping the passing game. The Saint Leo Lions’ swimming team had a great week as both sophomore Matija Rafaj and senior Natalia Garriock were named Sunshine State Conference Male and Female Swimmers of the Week for the week of Jan. 22-28. This was Rafaj’s first and Garriock’s third time winning the award this season. Rafaj joins teammates sophomore Henrik Dahrendorff (Dec. 20) and freshman Georgios Veliadis (Jan. 22) as the only male swimmers to win the award for the Lions this season. Coach Brad Jorgensen is in his fourteenth season at Saint Leo University as the head coach for the Men’s Lacrosse program. He has been the head coach of the program since its inception. Jorgensen has seen the success of the program and holds a 102-81 record at Saint Leo. This year, the team has a similar goal: compete for the conference championship and clinch a spot in the NCAA tournament. This team has an enormous amount of veteran presence as there are 15 seniors on the team and coach Jorgensen sees it helping out the team throughout the season.…

This weekend from Friday, Jan. 26, until Sunday, Jan. 28, Tampa Bay will be hosting the 63rd National Hockey League All-Star Game, along with a full three days of pregame events.
